Microwave Oven: Safe Use and Cleaning Tips
Published 7 October 2026 · Repair Centre Kota
Short answer: Never use metal, never run it with nothing inside, and clean it often. Stop using it if the door is damaged or it sparks.
Do not put in the microwave
- Metal, foil or gold-rimmed crockery
- Sealed containers and eggs in their shell
- Plastic that is not marked microwave-safe
How to clean it
- Heat a bowl of water with lemon or a little vinegar for three to five minutes
- Leave it for a few minutes, then wipe the inside
- Clean the door seal and the small cover on the side wall
Safe habits
- Cover food loosely so it does not splatter
- Stir liquids before and after heating, because they can overheat without bubbling
- Leave space around the oven for ventilation
When to stop using it
Stop if the door does not close, the seal is damaged, there is sparking or a burning smell. Call a technician and do not open the cover yourself.
