Washing Machine Shaking or Noisy: 5 Causes
Published 7 October 2026 · Repair Centre Kota
Short answer: A shaking or noisy machine is usually unbalanced, not level or has worn parts such as shock absorbers or bearings.
Common causes
- Unbalanced load. One heavy item, such as a towel or blanket, shifts to one side during the spin.
- Machine not level. The machine rocks on uneven feet or an uneven floor.
- Transit bolts not removed. On a new front load machine, shipping bolts must be removed before use.
- Worn shock absorbers. The drum moves too much and bangs the sides during the spin.
- Worn drum bearings. A grinding or rumbling noise that gets louder in the spin usually means worn bearings.
What you can check safely
- Redistribute the load or wash fewer items
- Adjust the feet until the machine does not rock
- Check that no coin or small object is in the drum or filter
When to call a technician
Grinding or rumbling noise, or violent shaking even with a balanced load, needs a technician. Using the machine this way can damage it further.
