AC Not Cooling in Kota Summer: 6 Common Causes
Published 7 October 2026 · Repair Centre Kota
Short answer: If the AC runs but the room stays warm, the usual causes are dirty filters or coils, low refrigerant gas, or a failing capacitor or compressor.
Common causes
- Dirty air filter or coil. Dust blocks airflow, so the AC cools less. In dusty weather, clean the filters every two to four weeks.
- Low refrigerant gas. Gas is not used up, so low gas means a leak. The leak must be fixed before refilling. Ice on the pipe is a common sign.
- Dirty outdoor unit. Dust or lint on the outdoor coil stops the AC from releasing heat, so cooling drops on very hot days.
- Weak capacitor or failing compressor. The outdoor fan runs or hums, but the compressor does not start or stops quickly.
- Wrong capacity or settings. A 1-ton AC in a large or sun-facing room will struggle. Check that it is in cool mode with a sensible temperature set.
- Faulty sensor or PCB. The AC switches off early, blows only air, or behaves oddly with the remote.
What you can check safely
- Clean or rinse the indoor filters and let them dry
- Check the remote is in cool mode and the temperature is set below room temperature
- Look at the outdoor unit: the fan should be running
- Check the MCB has not tripped
- Look for ice on the indoor unit or the thin pipe
When to call a technician
Call a technician if there is ice on the pipe, the outdoor unit does not run, there is a burning smell or the MCB keeps tripping. Do not open the outdoor unit yourself.
